Final Project & Presentation: Final Project Submission and PresentationFinal Project Submission (Submission)
The capstone project is a culmination of your work in the IDM edX microMasters. The work produced should be well conceptualized and have a technical component. This draws on the three courses in the certificate - Media Law, Creative Coding, and Theories of Media and Technology. Acknowledging the different components of these courses, this project will be evaluated with an eye towards each of these domains - social, conceptual, and technical. It does not have to excel in all of these, but there must be a clearly articulated component of each apparent in the final project.
We will be looking at the integration of the three components in the context of the overall assignment. Does your work’s remix address social, technical and conceptual issues in comcapacity? How well do these incorporate into the project? When thinking about this, ask yourself what the core idea of your project is about. Does your project touch on and integrally support something from the other courses?
Does the project have a technical component - such as something derived from Creative Coding? (You should be able to justify the use of the tools you are using and how they fit with the context of the work. Though this is not a must, we strongly encourage projects that involve a technical component.)
Does the project address issues laid forth in Media Law?
Does the project have a conceptual dimension stemming from Theories of Media and Technology?
Is there a clear purpose in this project? Is it understandable by the intended audience?
Does the project adequately address the idea of a ‘remix’?
Your presentation should walk us through your process as well as your project. You should be able to draw on your research and work to articulate the story of what you’ve accomplished. Don’t put off showing your project until the end! A good way to present your work is to briefly describe what your project is (think of an elevator pitch - can you successfully describe your project in the time it takes an elevator to go down 5 floors?), show the work - clearly and with enough depth so an observer will have a good idea of how the piece works - and then go into describing your process and inspirations. Don’t be afraid of talking about where you believe you could have done better, and be sure to indicate what you might do with this project in the future, or how you might improve on it with more time.
